Universal Chargers for all handsets. Sounds interesting, right? Actually the concept of developing universal chargers was being developed at the World Mobile Congress keeping in mind the wastage of resources involved in developing, recycling and transporting different varieties and types of chargers.
According to reports there are 17 leading mobile phone manufacturers in world and this initiative of developing universal chargers may also help mobile companies to concentrate on developing and manufacturing mobile handsets as they can outsource other companies in manufacturing those universal chargers.
Here is what the GSMA has to say about developing universal chargers:
The initiative lead by GSMA says that their aim is to ensure that the mobile industry adopts a common format called a universal charging solution (UCS) by 2012 for mobile phone charger connections and energy-efficient chargers resulting in an estimated 50 per cent reduction in standby energy consumption, the potential elimination of up to 51,000 tonnes of duplicate chargers1 and the enhancement of the customer experience by simplifying the charging of mobile phones.
As a customer even I feel that the concept of universal chargers are awesome as it would reduce the burden of carrying different chargers of all different mobiles while travelling somewhere. 🙂 Hope the industry will soon adopt this policy.
