What to do After Loosing your Mobile Handset?

Loosing mobile handset is one the biggest nightmare for a mobile   geek/lover. They always take atmost  care to protect and safeguard their mobile  from being lost or stolen but still many loose it despite their due care. Even many of my visitors and friends continuously keep asking me what to do after loosing their handset and is it possible to get their handset back. So, here, I am posting some precautions to be taken and things to be done if a mobile handset is lost.

Precautions:

  • Whenever possible, password protect your mobile phone to be prompted with a password each time you switch on your mobile so that even if some one steal your mobile, it will be difficult for the thief to access your private and valuable data/information.

  • Avoid using mobile strings or other fashion accessories that makes it easy to snatch your mobile handset.

  • Periodically keep cleaning your old contacts, SMS messages or other private and sensitive data that is no more necessary for you.

Things to do after loosing your Mobile Handset:

There are very negligible chances of getting back a lost handset unless you are using any kind of mobile tracker technology, still, if you ever loose your mobile handset then do not panic and take the following measures so that you may not have to incur any further losses (like unauthorized use of available talk-time,  number or data)

  • Immediately, after you discover that your mobile is lost or stolen, call your mobile operator’s customer care to get your number deactivated.
  • As soon as possible, step in to a nearest police station and lodge a FIR (First Information Report) about your lost handset and procure a written FIR Copy from the same police station.
  • Submit a copy of the FIR to the nearest outlet of your telecom operator and demand for a duplicate SIM card for the old (lost) number.

This way, you can at least get back your valuable SIM card with the same number and talk-time that was remaining unused (incase its a prepaid number).

Further, if you wish to try your luck getting back the lost handset, then inform some of the local (place where you lost your handset) mobile shops and other grey mobile traders about your lost handset. May be they can help your getting your lost handset back! ;)
